Ahead of EU social summit fault lines emerge among Member States

An EU leaders’ social summit will take place in Porto on 7 and 8 May. Leaders of the European Council adopted the European Pillar of Social Rights at a similar summit in Gothenburg, Sweden in November 2017. Until now, the pillar has been little more than a declaration of good intentions with little traction. EU ready for recovery
A call for Member States to act

The Covid-19 pandemic has shaken the societies and economies of the 27 EU Member States for more than a year, so it comes as welcome news that earlier this month, the European Commission announced that the recovery instrument, NextGenerationEU, will increase in value to €800 billion at current prices.
