European
Social Services Conference, Göteborg, June 6-8, 2002

The
friendly city of Gothenburg welcomed delegates from 20 countries
to the 9th annual European Social Services Conference held on the
6-8 June.
With the support of the European Union and in cooperation with the
Swedish EU Presidency, this event addressed the social challenges
of enlargement, ageing and exclusion.
|
|
The conference was opened by the Swedish minister for Health and
Social Services, Lars Engqvist, who addressed the values and vision
of a welfare society which sought equality "...by treating
people differently, because we are all different" (see

The Swedish minister was followed by the Finnish minister, Maija Perho,
whose country holds the presidency of the Nordic Council of ministers.
She too emphasised the Nordic concern for community, local democracy
and social integration and cohesion (click
