The future is local!
Empowering communities, combatting poverty, improving services
This year, the European Social Network (ESN) organised its 24th European Social Services Conference (ESSC) in cooperation with the Netherlands Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Co-hosted by the City of The Hague at the World Forum on 20-22 June, this annual event ‘The future is local!’ explored how public services could collaborate more effectively with local communities and their citizens in combatting poverty and social exclusion.
Bringing together over 300 international senior professionals from all levels of government, private sector companies and third sector organisations, the 2016 ESSC was a unique opportunity to learn about the latest trends in social affairs, to share innovative practice and be inspired by new ideas.
Combining exciting keynote speakers - including politicians such as Ahmed Aboutaleb, Mayor of Rotterdam; social entrepreneurs such as Sascha Hasselmayer, CEO of Citymart; and local public managers such as René Paas, Director of Divosa - with a revamped programme of knowledge-sharing and networking sessions, this was a fantastic opportunity to connect with new local solutions across Europe.
