EIP AHA Conference of Partners

The second Conference of Partners of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP AHA) took place on the 25 November in Brussels. The EIP AHA brings together EU-funded projects and other initiatives promoting active and healthy ageing in a single framework for mutual learning and policy development. The overall aim is to increase the average healthy lifespan in the EU by two years by 2020. More than 500 representatives from public authorities, research institutes, policy makers, businesses and NGOs took part in the conference in order to discuss the progress of the project.

Participants presented the initial outcomes of the six the working groups, the so called action groups, and also the evidence collected by reference sides, regions that implement active and healthy ageing measures from the working groups. The results presented were based on the work started in 2012 which will continue up to 2015.

  • Action Group A1 Prescription and adherence to treatment
The group has been working on awareness raising to tackle poor adherence to medication and health treatment, on synergies with other sectors and practices on how to empower people to manage their own treatment.

  • Action Group A2 Personalised health management
The group has gathered practices and works on multi-agency approaches to prevent falls.

  • Action Group A3 Prevention of functional decline and frailty
This action group has established a more comprehensive and clear understanding of frailty and now works on preventative approaches, including training of professionals and cooperation across sectors.

  • Action Group B3 Integrated care for chronic diseases
The group aims to “scale-up integrated care programmes serving older people, supported by innovative tools and services, in at least 20 regions in 15 Member States based on validated, evidence-based cases (2015-2020)”; it currently works on mapping existing organisational models on integrated care.

  • Action Group C2 Interoperable independent living solutions
This group works on interoperable innovative products and services, such as ICT tools, that promote independent living. The aim is to develop guidelines for businesses and promote innovative procurement.

  • Action Group D4 Age friendly buildings, cities and environments
