: The Brighton & Hove Youth Offending Service (YOS) provides a variety of services, including preventative, pre-court, court, supervision, and custodial.

The YOS works with young people aged 10 to 17, their families, and other relevant professionals to provide the following services: support and supervision to young people involved in the criminal justice system, preventative work for children and young people at risk of becoming involved in offending, and reductions in the levels of offending by children and young people.

In addition to professionals on youth offending teams, the public sector works with volunteers to engage young offenders. The YOS is constantly in need of volunteers to assist with referral order panels or mentoring schemes. Volunteers are drawn from the surrounding community. Volunteers receive extensive training as well as ongoing support. A rota system is used to account for any commitments volunteers may have at home or at work. The recruitment for the volunteering scheme is ongoing.

Objectives: Preventing crime and (re-)offending by young people; Reducing the number of children and young people in custody; Managing the risk of harm to victims and perpetrators reducing the number of children in the criminal justice system and guiding those already in the system away from criminal behaviour.
