As part of the European project "Design-led Innovations for Active Ageing (DAA)," the Welfare and Social Projects Department of the City of Warsaw commissioned the redesign of the existing Centre for Social Services and Social Assistance Personnel Training Centre "Nowolipie Centre" in 2012 to transform it into a new intergenerational activity centre. Residents, NGOs, and other stakeholders have previously expressed a desire for such a facility. The "Nowopolie Centre" is an elderly day care nursing home that provides assistance (laundry and food services) as well as activities such as a chess and bridge club, English classes, gym classes, and so on. The local government funds and manages it. It was created for Warsaw's senior citizens and people with disabilities.

The centre was redesigned using a participatory methodology based on c-o design, which placed service users at the centre of the process, as well as methods and tools commonly used in service design.

The new senior activity center's goals are as follows:

• Involving and integrating older people in the community

• Enhancing communication and interaction with the elderly

• Starting a social dialogue among generations

• Improving senior citizens' health and well-being
