Alfonso Lara Montero, the European Social Network’s (ESN) Chief Executive, presented the 26th European Social Services Conference which will take place between the 28-30 May 2018, also in Seville. He outlined the great opportunity the event represents for professionals and experts across Europe to exchange knowledge and best practices regarding social services and revealed some of the confirmed speakers. These include Herminia Palacio, Deputy Mayor of Health and Human Services in New York City and Christian Bodewig, Program Leader for Inclusive Growth in European Union Member States, Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank.

The event demonstrated the depth of enthusiasm for the upcoming Conference and included a number of high-level speakers: M. ª José Sánchez Rubio, Ministry of Equality and Social Policies of Andalusia Government; Rafael Herrador Martínez, Western Regional Director of Andalusia from Caixa Bank and Lidia Ferrera Arías, Seville County Council Member for Social Cohesion and Equality, among others.

Ms Sanchez Rubio highlighted the theme of the Conference, ‘Invest, Innovate, Transform - Empowering People and Local Communities’ and pointed out that the regional government of Andalusia is convinced of the necessity to promote fruitful debates regarding social policies in order to ensure their future sustainability. She argued that “all public administrations must commit to improve citizens’ quality of life, fostering an increasingly advanced society that generates resources in a sustainable manner and adapted to new demands and social realities, based on a fair, social and viable model”.
