Following new momentum at EU level on Active inclusion with the European Pillar of Social Rights and the Social Investment Package, The European Social Network (ESN) is undertaking analysis of how social services are supporting people furthest from the labour market to not only successfully find but also retain jobs, whilst identifying how practice can be improved.
Public social services have the statutory duty to support vulnerable people in our societies. However, people with complex problems face significant barriers to social inclusion, with employment a crucial but difficult step towards greater autonomy. Active inclusion, therefore, remains an important objective for all ESN members.
With this in mind, we are promoting a shift in the perspective of policy-making, from an activation approach grounded on employment to a more holistic one - where health, education, housing and employment are all considered as important factors to improve outcomes for the social inclusion of vulnerable people.
This approach and innovative practice examples will be presented at the ESN seminar Inclusive activation: supporting the social inclusion of people furthest from the labour market, taking place on 5-6 November in Vienna. The seminar is organised in cooperation with the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU and ESN member, the City of Vienna.
It will bring together more than 60 members of ESN and 70 professionals in Austria to work together on paving the way forward in active inclusion. Are you working on activating people furthest from the labour market with complex needs? Are you looking for innovative approaches to activation? If yes, join us in Vienna. Due to high interest, we have now opened the registration to non-members, but we only have space for 20 delegates. Please register soon to ensure your space at the seminar.
