Over 550 leaders of social services authorities, policy-makers, researchers and industry professionals will shortly be coming together in Hamburg for the 30th European Social Services Conference beginning on 8 June.

Social services have transformed over recent years as they have responded to crisis after crisis. Not only the response to Covid-19 which saw frontline social services professionals implementing new and innovative, digital, agile, and remote ways of working to continue to provide care for vulnerable communities, but also more recently the war in Ukraine, as millions of people, particularly women and children have sought shelter in countries across Europe.

In 23 workshops, 5 thematic panels and 6 plenaries, participants will share their innovative and evidence-based knowledge on social services policy and practice focused on learning the lessons from Covid-19 so that their organisations can build on the reforms which have already taken place to become more sustainable and resilient.

The first day of the conference will focus on international and national approaches to strategic change and decision-making with the first plenary session featuring presentations by the World Bank and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. The second day focuses on resilience – not only looking at international and national approaches to investing and supporting the resilience of the social services workforce, but also how we can build individual and collective resilience to promote social inclusion.  We will also discuss the tools available for public authorities and social services as a result of the national resilience and reform programmes now being implemented as part of Europe’s recovery.

Interspersed with the plenary discussions will be opportunities to share best practice from across Europe in workshops and the project forum. Delegates can choose from a diverse and varied programme of presentations featuring new models of providing social services, projects which support different vulnerable groups, such as elderly or disabled people, children and their families, or homeless people.  A common thread across the Conference will be improving social care practice in people’s local communities.

Our conference partners, Deloitte, EY, Accenture, Microsoft, SAP, Diona, IBM Watson Health, Eurofound, Raisoft, Bertelsmann Stiftung and KPMG will also be present to share their expertise. Our new Innovation Zone will be an opportunity for participants to learn about the latest digital solutions, products, tools and platforms for social services.  The key question of how digitalisation impacts on people’s experiences of social services will be further explored in a special session called Let’s Go Digital!

Delegates can also look forward to a packed social programme, with an Official Reception by the Mayor of Hamburg at the City Hall and the 30th anniversary Gala Dinner, which will take place at the prestigious Hamburg Museum of History.
