“Having functional integrated management frameworks is essential today to deliver the most efficient social services”
Bolzano Social Services is the primary provider of social services in the Bolzano region in Italy. Valentina Meotto, General Manager, told us about their Core Care Plan, a model of care which works to improve the quality of care given in care homes. Within the various residences for older people that Bolzano Social Services manages, caregivers focus on two complementary dimensions of assistance; individual care and care in a group. These two approaches are often not correctly integrated, resulting in a lowering quality of services and frustration for care givers.
The Core Care Plan was created to raise awareness about those two complementary approaches that often were misunderstood by caregivers. The Plan intends to facilitate the application of a model that allows the use of both dimensions of care and assistance. It includes training sessions and supervision meetings for caregivers that focus on developing interactive techniques between different teams in order to increase effectiveness of social services. This system helps to develop a better management framework for caregivers that increases the wellbeing and efficiency of workers, improves resources management, and helps to provide care services that fit the real needs of older people and the care homes real situation.
Having functional integrated management frameworks is essential today to deliver the most efficient social services. The Core Care Plan is a perfect example on how such systems can have a positive impact not only for recipients of care, but also for care givers.
We asked Valentina how ESN supports her and her organisation in learning from others and she told us:
“ESN is a precious source of information related to the social sector and constitutes a tool through which Bolzano Social Services has the opportunity to get to know the workings of other organisations in Europe, in order to draw inspiration and comparison.”
