The German Association for public and private welfare closely monitors the situation related to the consequences of the Covid-19 health emergency on social welfare. In a joint media release, the Association, together with other social associations, has called for the need of the non-profit social economy to be under the Covid-19 protection umbrella.
Furthermore, the Association paid particular attention to the topic of child and youth protection during these times. The Association has expressed its agreement with the adjustments made to parental allowance due to the coronavirus and welcomes the draft law that foresees extending parental allowance and support to parents in relevant professions such as healthcare and the police. However, the Association also requests a consistent definition of relevant professions or sectors across all German states. Furthermore, the Association supports the appeal of the Federal Youth Council that independent providers of child and youth welfare remain financially secure and have access to financial support quickly and easily.
