The European Social Network's study launch at the European Parliament (EP), was hosted by Nathalie Griesbeck MEP (Vice-Chair of the Intergroup on Child Rights) and supported by the ALDE group. It tied together all of our work between 2011-2016, and provided participants and stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss the key findings and next steps. Preceding the launch at the EP, a review meeting with ESN members took place on 30 May 2016.

At the launch event, our keynote speaker, Gøsta Esping-Andersen, renowned for his work on the welfare state, told us why social investment needs to start with children and what it means to have a child-centred social investment approach in our welfare states. Ioannis Dimitrakopoulos (Fundamental Rights Agency, FRA) drew on key findings from the latest FRA report to highlight key elements of integrated child protection services and links with other universal services for children.

This meeting and the resulting discussion were of particular interest to participants coming from the core 14 countries at the centre of the report (Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom), but also for colleagues from other countries, where a similar methodology could be applied to assess the organisation of children’s services in their countries, as well as for representatives from international organisations with a focus on social policy
