ESN members from Denmark identify the most important common challenges facing social services, relating to three principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights and recommendations for the 2023 European Semester.

The new law called ‘The Child First’ should put in place better and earlier measures for vulnerable children and families and provide an earlier quality placement. For the implementation of Principle 18 of the EPSR  efforts need to be undertaken by the Danish Government to improve staff recruitment and retention, maintain a good working environment and utilize effectively digital tools and assistive technology in care services. The new public housing law which indicates that the state will only finance homeless hostels 50% for the first three months should not become an additional financial burden for local authorities’ social services in the municipalities that do not have enough social housing to accommodate homeless people after three months.
