ESN’s European Semester Reference Group has met each year since 2014 to discuss challenges facing social services in Europe and the annual European Semester policy cycle with representatives from the European Commission. This year, the Reference Group will meet on 28 – 29 June 2018 in Brussels.
It represents an opportunity for social services to present the issues they experience at the local level with policy-makers from the European Commission, in addition to allowing the European Commission to share their policy initiatives.
The 2017 meeting saw lively debate on a number of topics, such as whether policy recommendations issued through the Semester adequately address social issues, the need to recognise local stakeholders, and the future role of the European Pillar of Social Rights.
The 2018 meeting will be a chance to revisit these issues one year on and to discuss new developments facing social services across Europe in 2018.
