The “Croatia for Children” Foundation, a public foundation established by the Government of the Republic of Croatia under the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy, has launched the national campaign “Parenthood is a Plus”.

The campaign was launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Demography and Immigration of the Republic of Croatia and with their financial support.

Running until the end of 2026, the initiative aims to encourage an open conversation about parenthood while addressing the concerns that lead many young adults to postpone starting a family.

The campaign is primarily aimed at people between the ages of 25 and 40 who would like to become parents but feel held back by financial uncertainty, housing challenges, career concerns, changing lifestyles or the feeling that there is never a “right time” to have a child. Rather than promoting parenthood as the only life choice, the campaign respects individual decisions while supporting those who already wish to become parents but continue to delay that step.

By bringing together public institutions, experts, employers, civil society organisations and citizens, the campaign encourages dialogue on the barriers to parenthood and highlights practical solutions that can help young people make confident and informed decisions about starting a family. By strengthening public awareness and promoting a more family-friendly environment, the aim is to create long-term social impact.

The campaign was officially launched in Zagreb with the panel discussion “Is a Baby Boom Possible in Croatia?”, bringing together representatives of public institutions, experts and parents to discuss the emotional, social and practical factors influencing young people's decisions about family life. The event marked the beginning of this six-month awareness campaign that combines expert knowledge with personal experiences to encourage a broader dialogue.

Parenthood is a Plus: Croatia launches a national campaign to support future parents

Throughout the campaign, a wide range of activities will be organised, including media campaigns, social media content, podcasts, practical guides, events and personal stories that challenge common misconceptions surrounding parenthood. Using an accessible and positive approach, the campaign aims to demonstrate that while parenthood comes with challenges, it also offers opportunities for personal growth, stronger communities and a better future for children.

Creating an environment in which people feel supported in making decisions about parenthood is closely linked to children's rights, social inclusion, and equal opportunities; values that are shared across the European Social Network. Therefore, this initiative contributes to broader European priorities.

Through “Parenthood is a Plus”, the “Croatia for Children” Foundation continues its mission of improving the well-being of children and families while contributing to a society in which young people feel supported, informed and empowered to make decisions about their future with confidence.

Hence, the Foundation welcomes opportunities to exchange experiences and good practices with organisations working in this field. Organisations interested in learning more about the campaign or exploring future cooperation are invited to contact the “Croatia for Children” Foundation.
