The Public Service of Wallonia - Department of Interior and Social Action (SPW-IAS), alongside the Walloon Government, local authorities and a vast network of voluntary organisations, works on a daily basis to safeguard civil liberties and strengthen the democratic rights of all citizens, regardless of their origin, religion or sexual orientation.

It safeguards local democracy, primarily through the development of standards, the organisation of elections, the exercise of supervisory powers, and the funding and oversight of public and private operators. It also promotes governance through advice and expertise in support of local public policies and strengthens social cohesion through integration, prevention and social action.
