From April 2011 to December 2013, the Right to Control (RtC) was a pilot program in seven 'trailblazer' areas of England. It was based on the concept of personalised services, giving disabled people a legal right to choose and control six different funding streams.

Eligibility criteria: • disabled adults living in one of the five local authorities • people receiving assistance from one or more of the following services: access to work; work choice; adult social care; disabled facilities grant; independent living fund; supporting people

The Manchester Area Partnership Trailblazer was established by the Office for Disability Issues in recognition that disabled people are the experts in their own lives and are best placed to decide what support they require.

The Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People, Breakthrough UK, Jobcentre Plus, and the Independent Living Fund are also members of the MAP (ILF).

"My job, my choice" was an innovative supported employment project implemented by Stockport Council as part of the Right to Control Manchester Area Partnership from April 2012 to March 2013. It was a personalized program aimed at assisting 30 people with various forms and degrees of disability in their transition into paid work of more than 16 hours per week.

Aims: Allowing disabled customers more choice and control over their own lives and the support they receive • Contributing to improving disabled people's life chances and opportunities to live independently and meet their outcomes
