Day 1 Highlights

We had a successful first day at the 22nd European Social Services Conference in Rome. Over 400 delegates met to discuss social investment in Europe; we listened to Professor Loukas Tsoukalis from the University of Athens speaking about a fragile, uneven and jobless recovery from the economic crisis and the need for more investment in education, innovation and social inclusion in Europe.
Commissioner László Andor addressed the audience in a video message and presented opportunities for implementing the social investment approach to restore the chance of progress towards Europe 2020 targets. This was also reinforced by Michael Ralph from DG Regional and Urban Policy who emphasised the role of EU Funds in investing in people and communities.
