ESN member, the Institute for Social Services in Barcelona City Council, recently announced that in the first two months of the lockdown they received 34,485 requests for support. Of these, 17% or 6,000 had not applied for social services in the past year or it was the first time that they made a request. The applications made between 16 March and 15 May amount to just above a third of the total requests for help that were made in the whole year of 2019 (approximately 90,000).
The Institute publishes monitoring reports every month. Each report includes an outline of emergency measures, human and material resources, the number of accommodation places for homeless people, support provided by local social services and domiciliary care. The first report covering the period 16 March to 15 April is available here.
