In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scottish Government (SG) recognised the imperative of establishing proactive support arrangements between care homes struggling with infection rates (in residents and staff) and the relevant National Health Service (NHS) Board. A critical issue across all levels of authority was the absence of real-time data on COVID-19 outbreaks in care settings.
The aim of the safety huddles and the data template used to support them is to provide a mechanism for Care Homes to hold daily safety huddles and then consistently deliver the data from them to many stakeholder groups supporting the sector.
