This project began in March 2024, with service providers requested to submit heat management plans to allow the Authority to gauge services’ ability to manage heat waves. Following review and analysis of the submitted plans, a Heat Preparedness Checklist was drawn up, and visits were carried out to all licenced services falling within the scope of this project to check whether, in practice, service premises and staff were adequately prepared to operate during heatwaves. Where shortcomings were noted, services were advised in writing. During summer, mainly while heatwave alerts are in place, the Authority will be sharing promotional material and information disseminated by the public health authorities. Visits will also be carried out to check on services during heatwaves, particularly ambient temperatures, availability of water, adaptations to schedules, and care for service users’ health.
